South America is a predominantly Spanish-speaking continent. Brazil is however a notable exception
having Portuguese as its primary language. Consecuently the whole continent has an Iberian
flavour. Despite this the continent is awash with a rich cultural divesity.
Flights to South America
Flying to the major destination is not difficult. However it may sometime prove easier or more
cost-effective to fly to Spain and catch a flight from Madrid. Spain's continued strong relations
with South America cause it to be a major travel hub to this region.

Where to stay
South America is generally well developed. As a result, it has a good selection of
top quality luxury hotels for wealthy tourists seeking 5-star accommodation.
Budget travellers should be wary in some less stable areas (e.g. some parts of Columbia).
However, away from cocaine-growing regions and rebel-controlled areas, good decent safe
budget hotels and hostels can be found.
